Love this doctor?

Q: Doctor,  I’ve heard that  cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your  heart is only good for so many  beats, and that’s it…  don’t waste them on exercise.
Everything wears out  eventually.  Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer;
that’s like saying you can extend  the life of your car by driving it faster.
Want to live longer?  Take a  nap.

Q: Should  I cut  down on meat and  eat more fruits and  vegetables?
A: You  must grasp  logistical efficiencies.  What does a cow eat?   Hay and corn.
And what are these?  Vegetables.  So a steak  is nothing more  than an efficient
mechanism of  delivering vegetables to your  system.   Need grain?   Eat  chicken.
Beef is also a good source  of field grass  (green leafy vegetable).
And a pork chop can  give you  100% of your recommended daily allowance of  vegetable  products.

Q: Should  I reduce my  alcohol intake?
A:  No,  not at all.  Wine is made from  fruit.  Brandy is  distilled wine,
that means they take the water out of  the fruity bit so you  get even more
of the goodness that  way.   Beer is also made out  of grain.  Bottoms   up!

Q: How  can I calculate my body/fat   ratio?
A: Well,  if you have a body and you have  fat, your ratio is one  to one.
If you have two bodies, your  ratio is two to  one, etc.

Q: What  are some of  the advantages of participating in a regular  exercise  program?
A: Can’t  think of a single one, sorry.  My  philosophy is: No  Pain…Good!
Q:  Aren’t  fried  foods bad for you?
A:  YOU’RE  NOT  LISTENING!!! ….  Foods are fried these days in  vegetable oil.
In fact,  they’re permeated in it.  How could  getting more  vegetables be bad for  you?

Q:  Will  sit-ups  help prevent me from getting a little soft  around  the middle?
A: Definitely  not! When  you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger.
You  should only be  doing sit-ups if you want a bigger   stomach.

Q:  Is   chocolate bad for me?
A:  Are   you crazy? HELLO   Cocoa  beans ! Another vegetable!!!
It’s the best feel-good   food around!

Q:  Is   swimming good for your figure?
A:  If   swimming is good for  your figure,  explain whales to  me.

Q:  Is getting   in-shape important for my   lifestyle?
A:  Hey!  ‘Round’ is  a shape!

NOTES:  Don’t take this joke seriously buddy !!! I am nowhere responsible if you are following this Doctor’s advice. icon wink Love this doctor?

Mark Skillingberg Sentenced to One Year for Vehicular Manslaughter

The Los Angeles DUI Law Blog Mark Skillingberg Sentenced to One Year for Vehicular Manslaughter By Laura Fishman on March 7, 2011 12:24 PM | No TrackBacks

A movie and television music editor was sentenced last week to just one year in jail and five years of probation after killing a 72-year-old man in a 2009 drunk driving accident, despite the victim's family pushing for a harsher punishment. The Los Angeles Times reports that the sentencing of editor Mark Skillingberg came after a no contest plea to a charge of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence.

Skillingberg's accident took place when he was reportedly driving at about 20 miles above the posted speed limit with a blood alcohol level that was twice the legal limit in California. If Skillingberg completes his probation without incident, then the felony conviction will eventually be reduced to a misdemeanor and expunged from his record.

So how exactly was the defendant able to get away with not going to prison and likely avoid a felony that sticks to the permanent record? To begin with, Skillingberg had no criminal record prior to the 2009 drunk driving accident. The sentence in this case was part of a plea agreement, in which the district attorney's office said there "would likely reach the same result" if the case were to go to trial. A probation report also concluded that Skillingberg was not a danger to the community and that he would be able to learn from his experience.

Judge Katherine Mader noted that Skillingberg is not going unpunished for the crime, but she did express sympathy for the victim's family. If Skillingberg violates the terms of his probation, he will be sentenced to much stiffer penalties.

The Los Angeles DUI Law Blog Alleged Drunk Driver Crashers Through Watts Healthcare Corp. By Laura Fishman on March 3, 2011 9:11 AM | No TrackBacks

ABC News reports that a driver will be charged with felony DUI after driving through a building on Saturday night in Southern Los Angeles. The most ironic part of the story is that the suspect allegedly crashed her SUV into a sober living facility while allegedly driving under the influence.

Perhaps this can be a valuable lesson to the people staying in the sober-living house, as they can still learn about the dangers of drunk driving through the real-life experience. Yet last weekend's crash is certainly no laughing matter for all the parties involved.

Authorities have not yet released the DUI suspect's name, but news reports say that the car slammed into Watts Healthcare Corp. Inc. on S. Figueroa Street and that five people suffered from minor injuries as a result of the accident.

What type of criminal penalties will the suspect be facing if convicted of felony DUI? According to FindLaw, a person will typically face a harsher punishment for drunk driving when an accident results in an injury to another person. The offense is most often punishable with time in state prison, along with probation, fines, license suspension and mandatory alcohol education classes.

As for those people from the Los Angeles sober-living house, many of them may now be a bit traumatized by the dramatic crash through the house. Victims of a DUI accident can usually file a civil lawsuit against the impaired driver for damages if they suffered from injuries as a result of the accident.

In this case, Watts Healthcare Corp. will likely seek damages in court as well. Since there are so many consequences to a DUI, the driver should take this issue very seriously, and contact an attorney to ensure his or her rights are protected.

Los Angeles DUI Checkpoint on 2/19/11

The Los Angeles DUI Law Blog Los Angeles DUI Checkpoint on 2/19/11 By Laura Fishman on February 17, 2011 3:35 PM | No TrackBacks

Watch where you’re driving this weekend. Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department will be setting up at least one roadblock on Saturday to catch drunk drivers breaking the law. This week’s LAPD DUI checkpoint will be taking place in the 77th Division of the Southern Los Angeles region at the following time and location:

Saturday February 19: Florence Avenue between Gramercy Place and Western Avenue, 6:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.

LAPD states that DUI checkpoints are regularly conducted in the community in order to reduce the incident of injuries, death, and property damage associated with drunk driving. The 77th Division alone apparently experienced 129 DUI-related traffic collisions last year. Hence, the need for more DUI enforcement.

Yet there are people that are wrongfully arrested for driving under the influence at checkpoints each year, so it's important for drivers to know their rights when proceeding through such roadblocks. The state of California actually has strict guidelines and restrictions for law enforcers when it comes to how sobriety checkpoints are conducted.

For example, did you know that there must be a turnout before any DUI checkpoint in the state so that people have the option to turn around if they do not want to proceed through the roadblock? The public must also legally be given prior notice of any checkpoint.

The California laws on DUI checkpoints can be found through an earlier blog post titled "Los Angeles DUI Attorneys Analyze Sobriety Checkpoints." Meanwhile, LA area DUI suspects always have the right to speak with a Los Angeles DUI attorney after an arrest to so that they can get a better understanding of their rights during the criminal defense process.
